New statistics have been released by the IP5 Offices showing that more that 2.6 million patent applications were filed at the world’s five largest intellectual property offices in 2016. It was significantly noted that this is a 10.4% increase over last year.
The IP5 co-operation group, established in 2007, consists of the European Patent Office (EPO), the Japan Patent Office (JPO), the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
The statistics show that together the IP5 Offices granted 1.1 million patents in 2016, 9.6 percent more than 2015.
